Gold Hits 5-Week Low Amid Profit-Taking and Market Optimism

Gold prices are under notable pressure and have dropped to their lowest point in five weeks during midday U.S. trading on Wednesday. Silver is also seeing declines.

The market is experiencing selling momentum due to profit-taking and the exit of less committed long positions in the futures space.

A stronger appetite for risk among investors this week has also weighed on demand for safe-haven metals like gold and silver.

As of the latest figures, June gold has fallen by $60.90 to trade at $3,187.00, while July silver is down $0.675, now priced at $32.425.

U.S. equities are slightly higher by midday, extending recent gains that pushed indexes to three-month highs.

Market sentiment has improved amid signs that tensions between the U.S. and China are easing. Both nations have reduced some trade tariffs this week.

Tuesday’s muted U.S. consumer price index data helped ease inflation concerns. Attention now shifts to the U.S. producer price index report due Thursday.

The U.S. dollar index is slightly weaker today but has rebounded from early lows.

Crude oil futures are modestly lower, trading around $63.50 per barrel.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note is currently hovering at 4.45%.
